Halloween isn’t just about the costume you wear; it’s about becoming the character you’re dressing up as. If you read between the lines and took that as our approval for role-playing, then you are correct.

There’s nothing hotter than a man in uniform. Here are a few of our tried-and-true favorites.

Policeman. You have handcuffs. And aviator sunglasses. Enough said.

Fireman. We’re talking about the guys in the calendar. Yeah, lose the shirt, but feel free to keep the suspenders.

Athlete. Sports uniforms count too. This works particularly well if you’re a sports star’s doppelgänger. If you’re not, skip the wannabe David Beckham look and opt for something else.

Sailor. Regardless of whether you’ve seen the Sex and the City episode where the girls flock to the bars during Fleet Week, take our word for it: the ladies love sailors.

A few tips for bringing your alter ego to life this Halloween:

• Put a little effort into it. Come up with a role-play theme and stick to it. Are you saving her from a burning building and is she ever so thankful?

• Use your accessories (i.e. the aforementioned handcuffs).

• Think outside the box. If you’re a cop, you might want to take your after-hours party to the backseat. Sailors will probably enjoy a (skinny) dip in the pool…you know where this is going.
